Locust Primary Cover

I worked on this for a time spanning over a year and a half. It was all trial and error. I started with the Tool engraver. I kind of mapped out the face with that then went to town on it with a dremel tool. I was getting nowhere fast. It wasn't until my pops tossed some hand gravers my way that things started to really move along. Keep those things sharp and they cut through the aluminum like butter. I wish I could show you these tools but I lost my gravers... I've torn everything apart and can't find the damn things anywhere. If anyone happens to know where they are I'm dying to see them again.....

This is the earliest picture I could find.

This was all done with the Dremel Tool

This is where the hand Gravers came into play. I started with the hair.

I think I was still using a combination of the Dremel and hand Gravers

Getting closer

This is the final. I had most the detail I was looking for.

Then I polished it and lost a lot of detail... but oh well..... I guess I can put it back in later

Very nice! This might sound weird but could you post pics of the hand gravers or maybe all of the tools used?

dig it! Love the flavor!

If you wanted to showcase it on the bike some more, you could fill (at least partially) the low spots/grooves with something. Intaglio printer's ink (which is really thick, like toothpaste, but will attract dust/dirt in the long run since it never really dries), or crayon actually (which won't really attract dirt). Rub them in and hand buff it off the high spots after.

Thanks guys.....

designslink2... I'll try to round up the tools but as I said I lost my graver set so I can't really take a picture of that.

Gene.... I worked satin black paint into the low spots.... which is pictured in the last image. The buffing just softened the edges and got rid of some of the finer details.

OK just interested in what exact type of tools they are. I would like to get into doing all types of work with metal and wood. I know I can do good work just need to learn the techniques. Art runs in my families blood.
