The River

Today, I crawled out of bed at my usual 830 am. Rather than my usual swim upstream to down town - like I usually do, I headed north. I found this cool little secluded spot along the Des Plaines River. I was gonna dive in, but I gave a quick calculation of the amount of junk on the bank and my result was a much higher F.O.D. count below the murky surface. I opted out.

Mystic Tattoo

On Friday I stopped in at Mystic Tattoo on Cicero near Belmont to snap some pics for Loki and the shop. Loki heads up the piercing department at the shop and just finished a corset piece on Paulina. He asked if I would document the aftermath..... this is what I transpired.

Thanks Loki.... for the gas money!!!....... god Damn!

Check'm out 3120 N. Cicero Ave. Chicago, 60641

it makes of some men gods, of some free

One of my Favorites

It was my first "real" ride..... not little jaunts to the next town or bordering counties on flat straight roads. It was the end of 2005 and we were visiting some family south of Albuquerque NM. My dad would work on the road all Spring, Summer and fall...... When December would roll around he would bring the family down to New Mexico every year and ride all month covering New Mexico and the surrounding states. Since I was going to be married the following year I figured it would be my last chance to get out so I went along for the trip. I took the 69 and my dad took his ulta classic. I always took it easy on the bike since it wasn't mine but I hammered on that thing just to try and keep up with my dad. I figured.... well it's his..... if I blow it up it's not my fault. Three days before Christmas we decided to go for a ride.

It was fucking cold! Since the only time my dad ever got the chance to ride was in the winter he had the proper gear. I on the over hand had some shitty gloves and stiff foreign leathers probably made of Yack hide that didn't do shit for me. I layered on the clothes and we headed south.

We started hitting roads heading east. You could ride for what seemed like thousands of miles without seeing another sole. Gas was few and far between as well....... it got scary at times even with 5 gallon tanks.

It seemed that every road we rhode upon was one of Billy The Kid's tails while running from the law. It was crazy to think that some one could make it across this terrain on horse back.

We stopped in Lincoln where Billy escaped from jail then headed on to Roswell in search of big headed people.

Somewhere in between it warmed up enough to strip off some of my layers. My dad came out of the gas station and couldn't believe the pile of clothes that were laying on the ground. We barely had enough room to tote it along. We stopped outside of Carlsbad to catch some Z's. The next day we hit up the caverns which is one of the most amazing things one will ever see. We crossed the Guadalupe Mountains...... Let me tell you.... those cross winds were fuck'n knarly! We stopped at the national park and the people there couldn't believe we were riding in that wind until I showed them some pictures in the back of my camera...... then they were really freaked out. At one point I had the throttle wide open going down the back side of the mountain and the bike was bogging down. I couldn't believe it..... I thought the motor gave up.

We finally made it over to El Paso.... looked at Mexico across the river then jammed up to Las Cruces. We ate some great Mexican food.... checked out some of Billy The Kid's hiding places and hit the pillow.

The next morning we made white sand castles....... then flew up the interstate for a great christmas eve dinner. I'll never forget that trip!

Lunch

Today, I was sitting on my bike, eating a $3 MickeyD meal and watching the I-94 traffic flow in both directions like massive veins and arteries pumping with toxic blood- to and fro with energy and purpose. Everything turned to wedges. Everything is a wedge; moving shit or stopping shit better than any other shape on the menu. Where are all the motorcycles in this harness of chaos? The cars are moving at 5000 cars per hour and the bikes at an equivalent of only 50 cars per hour. I'm moving at 0 miles per hour because I'm observing from the edge of the vein. I know full well that a good number of these wedge shaped cells are going to convert to the 2 wheeled variety in a few hours or later even, next Sunday. Often when cells are in their two wheeled, free flowing state, they get wedged out or wedged into, by reckless 4 wheeled cells But,eventually, they will return to the more convenient, and resilient, 4 wheeled form. What is the fate of the extremely rare, 2 wheeled cell that doesn't return to it's 4 wheeled form?

Four Aces

From the first time I laid eyes on her......... I wanted only to run my tongue gently down her neck.

Wes and the guys at Four Aces absolutely killed it on this one!

Adam Wright

Adam has an amazing trigger finger that seems to be able to freeze lost moments that the naked eye can't see. Can't wait for the new HAULER! Should be out soon.

Donald Schuler

My Grandpa Don Schuler back in his younger days. At seventy some years old he still looks pretty much like this today. Not a gray hair in his head and tuff as nails. He never stops....... can fix anything and takes great pride in what he does. I love to hear the stories of his younger years. Like the time his mother gave him some change to run and get a bottle of Coca-Cola from the general store..... it was snowing and he slipped into the roadway and ended up wrapped around the axle of a thirties car stuck beneath the front fender. He was more worried about losing the change in the snow than his life. They had to jack the car up to get him out..... walked without a scratch! As well as other stories of his Car Club'n Day's and wreck'n cars. I believe he said the name of his club was the Road Knights out of Sycamore IL. He grew up in Rochelle IL. which is near by. He still has girls he went to high school with calling wondering if Helen is dead yet........Nope..... she's still kick'n too! Love you grandpa.

Easy Nighter

Miller High Life is a damn tasty beer and the grass is greener on the other side.

Alex and the old version

I met Alex last October at the Hunnert Car Pile up. He is the type of kid that don't give a fuck about what you, you and you think. He marches to beat of his own drum and that's why I like him. This weekend Brian and myself were sitt'n dining on some Porturican steak sandwiches when a kid rolled by on a bobbed Triumph. I asked...... who the hell was that? The scene is so small in chicago we know everyone that is into this crappy junk. Realized it was Alex on the new version of his Triumph and ran into him later at the shop........ It's a pretty sweet limey now!

P.S. Thanks Alex for donating Brain a Leica to take pictures with!

The need to ride... will cause you to do so.

Freak Flag

"Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It's gettin kinda long
I could have said it was in my way
But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
Cause I feel like I owe it to someone."

Later

I got my ticket, do you have yours?

Supper @ the Lodge

It's pretty rare that me and Mitch are home at the same time. Friday nights after work, before the night starts out we usually grab some supper together. Because we're both broke all the time and main street only has a convenience store, this has become our standard Friday night set down. Spam, white bread, mustard, hot sauce and Fritos for the crunch. Top it off with a bottle of real Coca Cola and a zebra cake for desert. It's about as American as black coffee and hand jobs and it'll leave you a couple of bucks for a tall boy and a full tank of gas. Zippity do da.

4X4 Vans

Lots of talk about vans and the lifestyle lately but it seems that most have forgotten about the 4x4. To get the full potential out of vannin' and to take advantage of the built-in bed I think you gotta be able to get lost in the woods for some of that natural lovin'.

Rain Drops Keep Falling On My Head

Headed for the city thursday........ which started out has a beautiful day. By the time I got my shit packed and the bike started the black clouds were running over the horizon line. They chased me east and finally ran me down as I entered the city limits. This was how it would go down the rest of the weekend. I'd wake up to sunshine and get run down by rain. Friday I rhode to Indiana For a little BBQ with some old friends. As soon as I would kick the bike over the clouds would appear. Same for the trip home...... but I had a blast.

Parked at the Lodge.

The Minnow

So I finally finished the Pan and took her out for a break-in run up to the Wisconsin border. Put on the ipod and hit the two laners heading North. Up on the state line I was listening to the song "Angels" by Black Mountain. The song is so ill that my eyes were being crushed by the sound to where I barely had one eye cracked through the Ray Bans. It was just enough to catch the back side of a killer lifted white CJ7. It was hot as blazes and the sun was burning red when I got close enough to see the long sandy blonde hair of two back country prizes whipping in the wind. As I slowly make the pass, the driver with her sun dress and dark sunglasses on, pulled the hair from her face and gave me the sweetest smile and perfect wave, so I had to see what they were up to.

I yell over "where you going" and with a shrug of her perfectly tan shoulders I read her lips saying "swimming". Me being selfish I yell back "can I go" answered with a "come on". So I follow 'em for a couple miles to a rickety old boat launch on a no wake lake. Perfect. Little did they know that I was prepared and had packed a grape flavored spliff for my wander lust. As the sun dresses hit the gravel I invited the girls to a puff which was accepted with an "oh my god, I love you right now"

Headed to outer space and hit the cool water giggling like school girls all the while admiring their blessed and naturally perfect sticks n bones. Sat on the shore for about an hour getting to be friends and they said they had to split so I got the number and made plans for a weekend ride with more grape flavored magic and a midnight fire.

Seriously, if this was a true story I would not be writing about it on my computer right now. But you should listen to that song really loud and see where it takes your head now that you know where it took mine.

still tweaking some bugs in the distributor on the pan and wrapping up the brake linkage and then hopefully this story will come to life. Sorry for the disappointment but I needed to get that off my chest. Now go out and see if your bike can get you laid. Mine can't.

Hope you like the bike though!
