Bobby The Leg

Bobby and Josh stopped by my place about a month ago. We spent the day relaxing on backraods and slipping on ice cold Mountain Dews. Bobby may be known as a car builder but his roots lay in motorcycles. After almost losing his leg in a motorcycle accident he moved on to cars for a bit while his leg gained strength. He started up King Kustoms concentrating on Hot Rod and Kustom Car builds but with so many friends around him needing work done to their bikes.... motorcycles became a full time deal. These bikes are his friends visions that he put in motion. Bobby is currently putting together a panhead of his own vision.

She's Gone

Everybody's high on consolation

Everybody's trying to tell me what's right for me

My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon

but it's plain to see that they can't comfort me

Sorry Charlie for the imposition

I think I've got it, got the strength to carry on

I need a drink and a quick decision

Now it's up to me, ooh what will be

She's Gone Oh I, Oh I'd

better learn how to face it

She's Gone Oh I, Oh I'd

pay the devil to replace her

She's Gone - what went wrong

Up in the morning look in the mirror

I'm worn as her stator brush hanging on the stand

my face ain't looking any younger

now I can see love's taken her toll on me

She's Gone

Think I'll spend eternity in the city

let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away

and pretty bodies help dissolve the memories

but they can never be what she was to me

She's Gone

Dave Biller

While in Austin I was able to spend some time with Dave Biller. Dave makes his living playing music.... sometimes playing three gigs a day. An outstanding individual.

Thanks for the shift knob Dave

The Drive Home...

Brad and Mark headed towards Chicago and Eugene, Amanda, Jerimiah and I split to Rockford. We could have torn into my motor in Dave's garage but Eugene had an empty truck bed so we let the good times roll and threw it in the truck. 350 miles of sunshine in the back of a truck isn't so bad. Thanks for the ride Gene.

We made sure to hit the fireworks superstore before crossing the Illinois border.

Otto's First

Our friend Dave's son turned one last weekend. It was a great reason to put 700 more miles in the books. Dave and Emily took good care of us and a good time was had by all.

Thanks for putting up with us Emily
See you next year

Catching Up

I have a lot of catching up to do. I've been riding the dog shit out of my Panshovel. With that comes worn out parts, catastrophic failures, bloody knuckles, speeding tickets, frustrated smiles and experiences that I would not trade for the world.

My system hard drive took a shit on me which is why my posts have been few and far between. It's back up to tip top shape so I will be posting photos from recent trips and experiences starting with a trip to Bloomington Indiana this past weekend for Otto Herr's first birthday party.

The city streets were hot so we hugged the lake until we reached Gary Indiana
Air Conditioning
Eugene and his Ol' Lady made it to Indiana but developed some bad vibrations and decided to turn around and hop in the truck.
Brad, Mark and myself hit the county roads and took our sweet time heading south. The path treated us well on this day.

I wish I could make these images scratch and sniff.

Cool air in the low lands and shade trees

Big bends and rolling hills

This was one of the best rides I had ever been on until we made it three blocks from our destination. We were rolling slowly down hill behind a car when I dropped a cylinder. Closer inspection revealed a bent intake valve in the rear cylinder. I pushed it up a gnarly hill and into Dave Herr's Driveway.... that's how close I was. I guess you can't win them all.

4th of July

I spent most of the day riding in the back of a truck beneath a blistering sun. A bent valve had me watching the traffic move backwards all the way home from Bloomington Indiana. The big blue sky was calling my name and with everything broken around me I jumped on my Dad's 75 FLH. A nice departure from riding the junk I build to any one of his old bikes. They always seem to work as if they have just rolled off the assembly line. I found myself chasing the horizon line. The setting sun gave way to mortar flashes in every direction. I parked on a gravel rode where a friend was beaten to death with a baseball bat for $200. From here I could see the flashes from 5 surrounding towns. I took in the peacefulness of the freedom and the violence of its cost.
